Nobuyoshi Araki: Self, Life, Death with 'Kaori'

VERY LIMITED AVAILABILITY

Limited collector's edition with a c-type print.

Nobuyoshi Araki is widely recognised as Japan's greatest living photographer. Relentlessly controversial, Araki's work confronts taboos surrounding sex and death. Self, Life, Death is the most comprehensive overview ever published of Araki's celebrated 40-year career in which he has produced more than 300 books and gained international acclaim for his provocative but often deeply personal work. This limited edition, handsomely produced book features Araki's best known work but also rare and previously unpublished photographs. It is separated into three sections - Self, Life and Death - to reflect the major themes in the photographer's work. It also includes several essays placing the photographs within their cultural context, a large selection of Araki's writings that have been translated into English for the first time, and a complete illustrated and annotated bibliography of the photographer's books.

The publication comes with a signed, 16 x 20 inch silver gelatin print of Untitled (Kaori, 2004)In Untitled (Kaori, 2004), Araki's lover, dressed in a patterned kimono reminiscent of a Hokusai print, reveals herself to her paramour - simultaneously inviting and other-worldly.
